Constructivism, a presentation I created

constructivism

A slide show I created on the modernist art movement known as Constructivism, I’m not keen on the paintings, but many of the structures are incredibly interesting.

It’s fairly basic though unfortunately, but I hope this will give an insight into Constructivism and you may learn something new about it!

Tracy Emin – My Bed

_76598450_emin1_624

Last week I was assigned another blog review. A 21st century artist and piece of my choice, I chose Tracy Emin, and I looked at one of her controversial pieces. Titled “my bed”

The piece is literally as depicted, it is Tracy Emin’s bed. She reportedly had nothing to contribute to her exhibition and decided to take her bed in and use that as her contribution.
It caused a lot of controversy due to there being various things that were not very savoury (aside from the fact that it is literally just a bed), such as used condoms and bottles of alcohol.

I personally am conflicted, as I find it rather tacky. Due to it just being a bed. However in another way I also have a respect of forms for Tracy Emin, as by doing this she shows that literally anything can be considered art, and can be exhibited. It’s very different from what you would expect, but in a way it sort of ‘works’ and underlines her intentions as an artist. This also shows an insight into the emotions that she felt while she spent the time in bed. It represents a lot of things that women of that generation went through. And knowing of her emotional work from before and the story behind the piece gives an insight into her personality and feelings.

Long term assignment – Personal video

Today I was assigned A terrifying an interesting project that I am to work on for the next few weeks. Create a one and a half minute video about something that has happened in my life.

All individuals who were set this task have been given two weeks in which to complete it, starting today, that’s this Thursday, next Thursday, and the Thursday morning after that. After spending the best part of an hour musing away I decided to make my video on the subject of me moving to my new home, it was the first time I’d moved house in about seven years and it was extremely daunting. As such I thought it would be interesting to do that.

Of course that meant me sitting around doing photo editing today since I had no photos on hand with which I could start this movie. But I’m hoping to get quite a few decent ones over the weekend.

Since I don’t really have very much else to show, here’s some more photos I took and edited:

photoshopped canopy

A photo taken in the forest outside my campus, a dark blue filter has been placed over the entire image, and the lighting has been altered to accentuate the darker and lighter tones in the image. Making it look more surreal.

photoshopped beach

A photo of the beach near my house, a red filter has been placed over it to accentuate the sunset, and the stones have had a separate filter over them to make them more pronounced.

Working with Photoshop to enhance images – 16/09/2014

Today my group spent most of the day looking at enhancing images using Adobe Photoshop. I spent a long time messing around with the various filters that were available, discovering what looked good – and what really didn’t. These are a couple of the photos I produced.

I may have to buy Photoshop because I really enjoy working with it! It’s fairly expensive though!

I only contrasted a certain area in this photo to enhance the bubbles

And in this photo I used a gradient over the top of the image, then by changing the opacity of it I managed to give it that white-orange-yellow overlaying gradient.

“Find something that you consider Aesthetically Pleasing” – Assignment post

~When I was first given this brief I spent a lot of time looking around my house at things that I found pleasing to look at, but I realized I found them pleasing as they were of a sentimental value, trinkets I found comfort in, to look at the objects visually rather than personally took a lot more time than I thought it would ~

What I came to was the palette I was provided with during the time I spent doing my GCSE Art course. The shape, as you can see below, is a flower. I remember when I was first given it I thought how it was appealing to the eyes, but not really all that practical in quantity it could hold. (This suspicion was given a more firm ground to stand on when I started using more water based paints, rather than acrylic and less “runny” mediums. The gaps in the palette became glaringly obvious as the colours mixed together.)
The over all shape of the palette was and still is appealing to me and was probably one of the driving forces that kept me using it again and again. That along with the feeling of it when I held it in my hand, the curving of the edges made it comfortable to hold in my palm, and I wasn’t concerned about dropping it.
Now, if you Google “aesthetically pleasing” it doesn’t only refer to shape, it can also mean attraction to the colours present in the object. (This is where I was stumped as far as the brief is concerned, as the colours present in the palette were something I had done myself a long time ago, and weren’t present in it originally.) I love to use drawing inks as a medium, and after finishing a piece of work over summer, I accidentally forgot to clean my palette. When I returned to it the colours had mixed, and dried, and I didn’t want to scrape the dried ink off. As such I still have it in my room, sat on my desk more akin to a  decoration than anything, as I no longer use it for its intended purpose. The mixture of colours is in my opinion very beautiful and I enjoy seeing it when I do, and on a few occasions it has inspired personal artwork that I have done.
